SCOTIA, NY – The Village of Scotia is hosting a public workshop on Thursday, September 19th, 6 – 7 PM at the Scotia Fire House – 138 Mohawk Ave. The workshop is an opportunity for community members to learn more about the New York Forward program and the current slate of projects and to provide feedback on the vision for the Mohawk Avenue’s redevelopment.
The Village of Scotia is seeking $4.5 million in funding from the NYS NY Forward (NYF) to support public and private projects within the Mohawk Ave project area – Reynolds/Mohawk to the Western Gateway Bridge and along Schonowee Ave. New York Forward is specifically designed to transform the State’s smaller communities into vibrant activity centers that offer a high quality of life and catalyze sustainable economic development bringing residential, social, and environmental benefits.
The Village of Scotia has been laying the groundwork to revitalize its Mohawk Avenue corridor for years. Envision Scotia was completed this spring with robust public input. The plan identified a vision for the Village and projects key to accomplishing that vision. The plan builds on planning projects that focused on Mohawk Avenue streetscape enhancements and successful grants that are being used to construct park, trail, building, and infrastructure improvements.
New York Forward applications are due on October 18th – the workshop is your opportunity to add your input to the process and to ensure that a successful application meets the community’s needs. The consultant team developing the application will be on hand to answer questions about the program and will have project interest forms for property owners with projects they would like to include in the application.
